When I sailed south to the Caribbean a couple of weeks ago, I did not expect to see arctic sea smoke rising from the ocean. This happens when the cold air meets the warmer water. The fog appears like steam or smoke.
For me this was both fascinating and unnerving. I worried if the cold would follow me. In the end, it was neither warm nor frozen on the island. Though I did get to have a little fun in the sun with a little sweater weather on the side. When I sailed back into New York harbor, I was renewed. The large chunks of ice floating in the Hudson River didn’t bother me at all.
